Lesson summary

When you stop on the last letter after a madd letter, that letter loses its vowel and the sound is lengthened.

How do I read it?

Stop at the end of the word, read the last letter without a vowel and lengthen the madd sound.

Letters: Madd letter + a last letter that loses its vowel when you stop

Length: 3 elif (a relative length in Tedvîr recitation, not seconds)

Common mistake: Still reading the last vowel when you stop.

  • If you go on without stopping, there is no madd ‘arid; only the normal length remains.
