Lesson summary

When you stop on a word, you drop its last vowel: the word ends without a vowel.

How do I read it?

Read the last letter of the word you stop on without a vowel. The easiest places to stop are the ends of verses.

Remember: When you stop: the last vowel drops · ة → “h” · ـًا → “ā”.

Common mistake: Still reading the last vowel when you stop.

  • A round tâ (ة) is read “h” when you stop: رَحْمَةٌ → “rahmah”.
  • A double fatha (ـًا) becomes a long “ā” when you stop: تَوَّابًا → “tawwābā”.
  • Do not stop in the middle of a word or where the meaning breaks.
